DiscordiaArts

A seemingly discordant journey has led me in numerous directions and has serendipitously introduced unexpected passions and adventures along the way.  One thing always holds true.  Within this "chaos", I create.  Here you will find me (slowly) documenting the Discordia of my explorations in creation.
Please excuse the mess as we reconfigure and redefine DiscordiaArts

The Beginnings:

Picture
Discordia Arts was the original brain child of Robert Gowan and myself.  We founded Discordia Arts in 2010 as a music/dancer duo with visions of combining the audible and visual into a unique performance arts experience.  For almost a decade, we collaborated on shows, productions and any collaborative adventure we could get our hands on.  During this time, Robert, with Wasted Wine, expanded and developed, as did I.  I began teaching classes and forming a small dance troupe who occasional joined me on stage with the band.  Later,  Jaidra Durant joined me in the performance shenanigans and here we stretched our dancing skills into all sorts of stage arts and created a friendship of a lifetime.  Discordia Arts, as it was, was retired in 2017 and the next stages of growth began.  In 2017 Jaidra opened NIAD and is now owner/director of NIAD Dance Company, of which I am ever so proud to be involved in from time to time.   Robert left teaching and is now producing movies and music under his new company, Other Southern.   Where am I?  Becoming an Architect and dabbling in all the things..

The Future:

Picture
Discordia Arts is now a 'place' to hold all the things that are created through me.  A creation portfolio to document a lifetime of growth and discovery.  The original name of our duo was suppose to be simply Discordia.  As luck would have it, that website name had already been taken.   So, 'Art' was added, In the back of my  mind I had thought, well maybe one day if this doesn't work,  it could grow to be an 'umbrella company' of all things art in my life.  Well, here we are with the back of my mind coming up front and center to take the lead!  Not an 'umbrella company' per say, but still a name/brand I resonate with as it was an identity for me during a time when I discovered the importance of the art within me.  Though I do, on occasion, question the name itself due to its direct relation to the meaning and connotation of discord, I also often feel that a bit of discord with myself and my process has propelled me forward and helped shape me into who I am today.   So, with that, It's time to create.
