“All dance comes from life, and in particular from our need to express ourselves and make sense of our existence. By its very nature it is one of the most powerful means of auto-intoxication we have, developing energy in the body and then releasing it.” Serpent of the Nile by Wendy Buonaventura

American Tribal Style belly dance is a unique style of Bellydance created here in the United States. It is an improvisational group dance where there is a leader who uses body language to cue the other dancers in order to present a unified dance that changes and flows among the dancers. This class is for all levels as we will be starting from the beginning with the original material from Fat Chance Belly Dance. Those familiar with the dance style will get a chance to review and refine technique while new students learn the joys of ATS.
The core strength of Tribal Fusion Technique is found in the ability to isolate muscles in order to produce a controlled movement independent of surrounding body parts. This skill added to artistic impression and genre mixing allows for a fusion dancer to truly be able to tell her story while impressing the audience with moves that they can't quite figure out. As an added bonus, it tones and defines, creating a rewarding workout! This class will be for those with some dance experience or permission from the instructor. Layers and advanced options will be given in order to create a challenging but achievable practice for each student.
